One of the most important lessons you will learn while training and studying any good martial art is the importance of giving.  You will receive a great deal along your journey from other martial artists.  Other people will give you their time, their knowledge and much more in order to help you learn and grow as a person and as a martial artists.  In order to keep receiving it is important that we all learn that we must keep giving as well.

This weekend Scranton Mixed Martial Arts held at 100% Free seminar at our academy in Scranton Pa.  This seminar was a Women’s Only Self Defense Seminar.    We had a great turnout for the event and it was a great success because everyone who attended learned a lot about self defense and had a great time as well.  All of the attendees asked when we would hold another event and we are already working on setting a date in July for our next event.

The Seminar was led by Jess Papi one of our Gracie Jiu Jitsu instructors and Kids BullyShield Instructors.  Jess has a great ability to communicate with new students and help them grasp the basic concepts, movements and techniques of Gracie Jiu Jitsu.  Jess did an awesome job from start to finish in explaining the moves, why they were important for females to learn and helping the students with the moves if they had any problems.

Jess ran the show but she also had a few people help her out as well.  First she had help from one of the most experienced Gracie Jiu Jitsu practioners in all of NEPA Dom Passanati.  Dom has trained in Gracie Jiu Jitsu since 1998!  His wealth of experience really shined during this seminar as he was able to make everyone feel comfortable with the subject matter and the techniques.  Dom was able to share some great tips and tricks that helped many of the students pick up the techniques really quickly.

In addition to Jess and Dom we had three other instructors help out at this seminar.  Stephen Peragallo, Frank Alogna and Tom McGuire also assisted during the seminar.  Having a total of five instructors on the mat really helped make this a great seminar.  The students got a lot of attention and guidance the whole time.  Many of the students commented that the amount of instruction they received helped them greatly.  If anyone had a question it was easy for an instructor to come over answer the question without having the seminar slow down.  In fact since their were so many instructors the seminar moved at a great pace.  Moves were shown, explained and then practiced by all in attendance.

Also in true Scranton MMA fashion we had a few volunteers step up at the last minute to help even more.  Now at this time we already had five instructors but we had a few students on hand who asked if they could help in any way.  That is what Scranton MMA is all about.  Helping, Giving back especially to new students!  The last minute volunteers did a great job of either holding pads for the students while they practiced striking or volunteering to get choked or armbarred by our new students.  This added a bit more reality to the training by having the women practice the moves on adult males and it also kept the females safer by not having to choke or armbar each other!

We are so glad that everyone had a great time and liked the seminar.  It wa a great atmosphere and everyone got to learn some really great techniques as well.  If you missed the event or if you are interested in the next one please take a second to visit: https://scrantonmma.com/freeEvents/ and send us your info and a quick message and we will be sure to keep you updated on our next FREE Event.
